Exponential Medicine 2015 – Day 3 – Including MEDy award

Third day at Exponential Medicine here in San Diego was really amazing! Wow! After my little disappointment about the second day, they made clear that there is still a lot of amazing input available.

Paul Roben started to talk about Lyme microbiome studies and bacterial cells inside our body. A very intereting graphic he showed, was that immunity disorders and inflectional deceases seem to have a connection. The less deceases we have, the more immunity disorders occur.

Divya Chandler MD PhD (Stanford University School of Science) was giving very interesting insights about conscious tracking and DBS therapy. Under the companies she mentioned Insightec was one of the most interesting ones. They describe themselves: “INSIGHTEC provides a non-invasive, image-guided alternative for deep brain procedures such as thalamotomy and pallidotomy for essential tremor, tremor dominant Parkinson’s disease and neuropathic pain. This personalized treatment is done through an intact skull with no ionizing radiation, providing a real impact on patients’ quality of life.”  Circuit TX is another company, developing clever solutions for neuroscience. Further on she showed some very interesting examples of already existing innovative products and services (e.g. Neurostar).

Ariel Garten showed her device “Muse” and explained how it can be used to improve the own meditation skills with a medical device.

William “Jamie” Tyler showed us the device “Thync” and explained how it works to stimulate the neocortex in an activating and relaxing way.

Derek Herrera held a motivating speech about how important it is to combine different medical solutions and innovations into a bigger system to get exponential benefits for the patients out of it.

Arshya Vahabzadeh (Director of Digital Health – Brain Power LLC) explained his thoughts about the future of psychiatry.

Corinna E. Lathan (CEO Anthrotronix) Brain Health Organization alz.org and Aqtivo Health

Jordan Amadio (CO-Founder & Partner at NeuroLaunch Accelerator) explained what NeuroLaunch is doing.

Will Henshall (Founder/ CEO at focus@will – Neuroscience Music Productivity Tools) showed us how music can improve concentration and effectiveness. It was very interesting to see that all kinds of music have a different impact on the concentration.

Eric Rasmussen

Manish Kotahri (President, Ventures at SRI International) SRI is specialized in innovative robotics solutions and solutions like the Superflex suit. The company Solid Bioscience is also a company focussed on the Solidsuit. They focus on Duchenne muscular dystrophy with a completely innovative and revolutionary solution by building a fitting suit. Danish made clear that these kinds of solutions could help regaining muscles and support training.

Komathi Stern (Strategic Innovation Leader, Genentech) held a presentation about how modern ways of clinical trials and patient services can work to shorten the time to market of a product. MytomorrowsScience 37 with project NORA and the Roche Parkinson App (Film) were the most interesting things to have a look at.

Milind Komkolkar (Global Head Next Gen Analytics – Novartis) showed some very interesting insights about Novartis own projects to be able to do live community screening with pharmaceutical and medical content. Thanks so much for these insights.

After that, the jury of the MEDy Award came together to announce the 2015 winners in the different categories.

MEDy Award 2015:

Dean Ornish (Ornish Lifestyle Medicine) held a presentation about how lifestyle can improve health. It became very clear that lifestyle has an enormous -if not the biggest- impact on health. The number of cases and informations he showed was very interesting.

Peter Diamandis (Co-founder of Singularity University, Founder of XPrize and much more) held the last speech of the day, talking about perspectives and his most important message was to find your real task in life to be most successful and have a real meaning.

Thanks to all speakers for a great third day!
